Use the existing rail network to provide a local train service. We have a train track that goes through a major section of the city and intersects with major arterial roads. All these sections are double tracks and most of the road intersections have a ROB or have an ROB planned. If a local train system is planned with stops at the road junctions, it will help in improving the public conveyance system. For example, a train running between ukkadam and singanallur

Clean Zones
Postby Hemanand » Mon Aug 17, 2015 4:57 am
The corporation could think of creating a few clean zones in some parts of the city. Once established, these clean zones would have higher standards of hygiene and cleanliness that would be enforced. These zones could

International Connectivity at Coimbatore Airport - Unless the connectivity is improved to important hubs like Dubai, Kualalumpur, the economic activity will only remain stationary. The sheer numbers of Trichy airport which has been included in the Bilateral agreement as a point of call (unlimited seat sharing with ASEAN) shows the apathy towards cbe. The potential of coimbatore is being deliberately denied by not improving the connectivity & expansion of Airport.

State Government shouldn't assume itself a GOD granting wishes to the pious, but rather take the initiative to get these things done for Coimbatore, because that is an investment that would ensure maximum return for the State's economy and hence the country's. There seems to be no present crop of officials, politicians or the Intelligentsia in Tamil Nadu that can speak up on things like GDP growth,Vision or even "commonsense". This,in a state that once boasted of intellectual giants/Visionaries.

The potential of International air connectivity has been realized, but the powers-that-be pretend ignorance. Any Project meant for Coimbatore is always delayed (doubling of train tracks, Flyovers, 6/4 laned National Highways, New airport, all hold the record of the MOST DELAYED PROJECTS IN ANY COUNTRY!!! A Efficient, straightforward, transparent and INDEPENDENT project management team has to be set up as a Special purpose task team to manage, control and implement any Smart city projects.

"Quality" Infrastructure is the need of the hour.
Foremost, plan for next 10 or 15 years!!!
"Quality" roads with sidewalks (please avoid double standards when laying roads and sidewalks for Chennai vs. Coimbatore)
Build flyovers at important intersections
Divert pass-through traffic through 6-laned "loops" or ring roads
Plan and implement a good metro/MRTS (its a cliche, but the "skin" has proven too thick)

Infrastructure is the main need of the city. If this is provided, the spirit of enterprise most prevalent in Coimbatore than any other city in India will take care of the rest. On this count it is and already a city of "smart" people. Not only the people who provide comments and suggestions here, but also the Government has to act smart.Coimbatore is an asset to any State, but unfortunately its potential has been purposely ignored by governments due to petty politics and pork barrel spending.
