Mahashivaratri as Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadeb Temple , Baghpat , presents a good opportunity to set a bench mark for a Zero Waste Mahotsav rooted in devotion and strickly maintain single use plastic, and not just manage it by adopting a circular economy approach ( reduce, reuse, recycle, rot ) and Zero Waste Mahotsav - Bagpat needed Q R Codes at the entry gate and distribute copons system for depositing plastic bottle and plastic carry bags after use tech to keep the temple clean

Zero Waste Mela Plan:
Digital Guide: Install QR Codes at entry gates to replace paper maps/flyers (Zero Paper Waste).
Eco-Rewards: Offer digital points or coupons for depositing plastic bottles to encourage recycling via youth.
Organic Waste: Convert floral waste (nirmalya) into organic fertilizer on-site.
Eco-Alternatives: Strictly use leaf plates (Pattal) and clay cups (Kulhad) in all bhandaras.
Goal: Use tech to keep the temple clean. Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi!

2. ON-SITE "NIRMALYA-TO-AARTI" UNITS :
Ritual floral waste (Nirmalya) is often the largest waste stream at these events and is traditionally dumped in rivers.
The Idea : Deploy portable "Hydro-press" units inside the mela grounds.
These units compress fresh flower waste into natural "Dhoop" sticks or incense cones within hours.
Practically Feasible : Pilgrims can watch the flowers they just offered being converted into incense, which they can then buy as a sanctified souvenir.
Impact : Ensures zero floral waste leaves the venue and creates an immediate "Waste-to-Wealth" revenue model for local temple trusts.

1. THE "PRASAD - PACK" SEED INITIATIVE :
Standard prasad (offerings) usually comes in plastic bags that end up as litter.
The Idea :
Partner with local self-help groups (SHGs) to create biodegradable, seed-embedded pouches made from recycled paper or compressed leaf waste.
Practically Feasible: After the ritual, pilgrims can take the empty pouch home and plant it.
The "blessing" of the mela literally grows into a plant in their own backyard.
Impact : Eliminates single-use plastic at the source and turns a potential waste item into a long-term environmental gift.

"Smart Zero Waste Mela System for Mahashivratri"
This is a proposal submitted on MyGov under the "Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi" initiative. It suggests transforming the Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste event through three simple steps:
QR-enabled dustbins for smart waste segregation
Ban on plastic — use of leaf plates, clay cups and cloth bags by all vendors
Youth Eco-Volunteers from schools and colleges to guide devotees and manage cleanliness
