With over 1.5 lakh Post Offices, the Department of Posts has the most widely distributed Postal network in the world. The goal of the Rural ICT Project is to provide a low power technology solution (ICT Device) to each Branch Postmaster (BPM) which will enable each of approximately 130,000 Extra Departmental Post Offices (EDOs) to improve the level of services being offered to rural customers with an objective to improve the quality of service, add value to services and achieve “financial inclusion” of un-banked rural population

The selected entry will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and two runners up entries will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2,000 each.

Vande Maataram, It is an ICT rural project, which will cover each village so, ‘ICT Graam’. It is all about postal services and ‘Patra’ is a word which is common to all languages. The English word ‘Device’ makes it multilingual, easy, universal and catchy. Hence the title : “ICT Graam Patra Device”. - Uma Maheshwari

PROJECT NAME > INDIA D@K 'DAK' is the common name for Indian Post with offices forming the largest postal network coverage, especially across the rural mainland. The letter 'A' has been substituted with '@' to suggest electronic empowerment for banking, financial and communication support towards the nation's progress.

Since India Post is involved in the financial inclusion of the un-banked population the name should have the following 1.India Post 2.Financial Inclusion 3.Rural Population 4.The product as well as the service The possible names can be - 1. POSTFIN (Post Office Financial Inclusion or also POS driven Financial Inclusion) 2. POSFIN (POS driven Finacial Inclusion) 3. RICTFIN (Rural Information and Communication Technology Financial Inclusion) 4. DOPFIN
