The National Library functions under the Government of India as a subordinate office of the Ministry of Culture. The Director General being the Head of the Department exercises the administrative and financial powers delegated to Heads of the Departments by the Government of India.
At present, the National Library enjoys the status of an institution of national importance under Article 62 in the Seventh Schedule of the Union List of the Indian Constitution. It is the largest library in the country. The National Library is a depository library for all reading and information materials produced in India. It is also a repository of printed materials authored by Indians, and printed materials concerning India but authored by foreigners, wherever published and in whichever language. In 1954 the Delivery of Books (Public Libraries) Act was passed whereby books published in India had to be deposited with the National Library and three other designated public libraries. The Act was amended in 1956 to bring newspapers and periodicals within its purview.
The National Library in collaboration with MyGov is organizing a logo design competition.

Competition Themes: Participants should aim to capture the following essence in their designs
• Cultural Preservation: Representing the National Library as a permanent repository of India's historical and contemporary records.
• Knowledge & Inclusivity: Symbolizing the Library's role in disseminating knowledge and coordinating the country's library system.
• Digital Evolution: Reflecting a modern institution that bridges traditional preservation with digital accessibility.
Technical Parameters: All entries must adhere to these specifications to be eligible
1. The logo must be original and unpublished.
2. File format: JPEG/PNG (High Resolution)
3. Minimum Resolution: 300 DPI, ensuring the design remains crisp at 100% view.
4. Maximum file size: 4 MB
5. The design should be scalable and suitable for:
a. Website
b. Mobile Application
c. Social media
d. Print Media
e. Banners & Official Documents
6. The logo must work in both coloured and monochrome formats.
7. The winner must provide editable source files (AI, EPS, or SVG) upon selection.
8. There should be no watermarks, signatures, or personal identification on the design itself.
9. The final logo may incorporate the following elements (if applicable):
a. Government of India Emblem (as per official guidelines)
b. Tagline (approved tagline)
c. Ministry Name (optional lock-up version)
d. Tricolour inspiration (optional)
10. The winning logo becomes the exclusive intellectual property of the Government of India.
Submission Guidelines
• Platform: Entries must be submitted on MyGov.in only.
• Concept Note: Include a brief rationale (maximum 200 words) explaining the symbolism and choice of colours.
• AI Policy: Designs must be original and not generated using AI tools or plagiarized.
Evaluation Criteria: Entries will be judged by a Selection Committee based on the following
• Relevance: How well the design communicates the library’s mission.
• Creativity & Originality: Uniqueness of the artistic expression.
• Simplicity: Ease of replication across various digital and print media.
• Visual Impact: Memorability and aesthetic appeal.
Rewards & Gratification:
Cash prize of ₹10,000 + Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry / Department.
