Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

There is poor planning and even poorer implementation of rules and regulations and projects. Request to take urgent attention of rampant corruption, official apathy at municipal level to improve the working condition of the citizens.

To avail subsidy from the government, a minimum criteria should be fixed. - Areas like RS Puram, Race Course, SB Colony... majorly the city corporation areas should not have PDS - Ration shops. - Entitlement for the same should be on basis of payslips or proof of unemployment. (incase found to be fraudulent, should be penalized.)

Environment and city development should be part of the school curriculum. 10 Trees should be planted for every tree cut or uprooted. (it should be made mandatory)

Restaurants, ice-cream parlours and bakeries should be permitted to be open 24 hrs, so that people could feel safer and comfortable in case they would want to venture out during the nights.

With consideration to the handicapped, the development should be inclusive providing them with the ability to move with dignity. Also special arrangements need to be made for them in all public places and buildings so that they could be a part of the society.

Two wheeler cabs, like in goa should be encouraged so that people can commute without much trouble in high traffic areas. This could be more affordable and very less time consuming.

vertical parking should be provided in the areas available to accommodate many vehicles, its of utmost priority. that would reduce the congestion on the roads and free flow of traffic would also save lot of energy and fuel.

The park plots should be identified in the areas and The parks plots in the city should be left open to people and trees should be planted with sitting benches for the elderly.

A simple connect from the brookefields road to the flyover without reaching the circle would reduce the traffic by approximately 60 - 70%, as most of the traffic flow from this side of the city moves through to Avanishi road.
