Indian coal contains high ash content approximately 35% where as imported coal ash content is low 10/15% logistically the transportation cost vs heat value and emissions to be considered. Setting up thermal plants close to mines is better option and feeding power to national Grid and transmission is easier. The aim to mine more coal is good at the same time growing trees to maintain ecological balance is equally important. Ideally should be closer to forests to absorb co2 emissions.
