Improving ED’s functioning requires a multi-pronged approach: embracing technology, ensuring transparency, enforcing timelines, and building capacity. These reforms will not only enhance efficiency but also strengthen financial integrity and accountability in India.

The functioning of the Directorate of Enforcement can be improved by making its work more transparent, efficient, and accountable. Clear communication about investigation procedures and timely updates on important cases can help increase public trust. At the same time, confidentiality in sensitive matters should also be maintained. The agency can become more effective by reducing delays in investigations and improving coordination with other departments. The use of modern technology and digital systems can also help in tracking financial crimes more accurately and quickly. Regular training of officers in areas such as cybercrime and financial investigation is equally important because financial crimes are becoming more complex. Another important aspect is maintaining fairness and protecting legal rights during investigations. Strong internal monitoring and accountability mechanisms can help ensure that powers are used responsibly.
