Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a major role in economic development, particularly in emerging countries. There is heightened attention by the international community on the MSME sector. This is primarily because of the critical importance of job creation in the recovery cycle following the recent financial crisis, and the MSMEs’ potentials in that respect.

the innovative ideas of school and college students can be transformed into msme units by govt and industry support.
school and college level competitions,forums, seminars should be organized on business ideas.
this will not just help msme sector but will also enhance the productivity of youth.

MSMEs provide employment to around 120 million people in India.
3. MSMEs are responsible for a 45% share of India's total export.
4. MSMEs contribute around 6.11% of the manufacturing GDP and 24.63% of the GDP from service activities.

Now MSMEs will be defined on the basis of ‘annual turnover’ instead of investment in plant & machinery/equipment.
Now let us know the Old definition of the MSMEs in India;2018

The enterprises engaged in providing or rendering of services and are defined in terms of investment in equipment.
In the month of February 2018, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved a change in the definition of the MSMEs

The enterprises engaged in the manufacture or production of goods (as per Development and Regulation) Act, 1951) or employing plant and machinery in the process of value addition to the final product having a distinct name or character or use.
