The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy with over 6 Crore units, providing employment to 11 Crore+ people (after Agriculture), having 28% share of GDP and 40% of exports. Like other sectors, MSME also has been adversely affected in terms of productivity during COVD 19. Accordingly, the efficiency and productivity of MSME assume further significance to achieve overall objectives of economic development and a V shape recovery of the Indian Economy.

Draft National Policy for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in India is a continuation of various measures taken to date to promote competitiveness, technology upgradation, infrastructure, cluster development, dedicated credit, procurement of products & financial assistance to MSME.

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises invites stakeholders, Industry Associations, MSME units and general public to share suggestions and comments on the Draft Policy. The purpose is to firm up adaptive and inclusive National Policy for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

“Raising and Accelerating MSME Productivity” (RAMP) is a USD 500 million operation to support the Government of India on Raising the Productivity and Competitiveness of MSMEs in India with a counterpart funding of 500 million USD from Government of India. RAMP is an intervention designed on the basis of the UK Sinha led Reserve Bank of India’s Expert Committee report (June 2019), which recommended various regulatory, financial and implementation reforms as well as firm level access reforms to provide targeted interventions to MSMEs across recognized challenge areas. In addition to building the Ministry of MSME’s capacity at the national level, the RAMP program will seek to scale up implementation capacity and firm coverage in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

People should know how to operate smart -phone and computers. The main role of Information Communication & Technology(ICT) in MSME SECTOR help people to use, share, distribute, and gather information and to communicate with one another, or in groups. Through computer and smart- phone helps them to scale and reach towards better audience and also give an insight to make sure their responsibility in a proper direction.

Among all the sectors, MSMEs were badly hit following the lockdown as industries remained closed for more than two months between March-end and June. The current economic situation is not conducive to small industries as there is restricted liquidity in the system, though the government pumped in stimulus to keep the sector alive. Although the government has introduced several economic measures in terms of financing, certain gaps remain that prevent the sector from functioning well. Let us take you through the top challenges that cripple the industry.

There is no denying the fact that our nation’s growth relies considerably on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that contribute significantly to the GDP by generating mass employment in every nook and corner of India. In view of its significance, the government is expected to provide adequate support to ensure MSMEs’ growth does not get hamstrung at any point, especially in the middle of a pandemic that has brought major global economies to a standstill.
