Three strategic components of Area based development in the Smart City mission are:

Retrofitting: This introduces planning in existing built-up area with an objective to make the existing area more efficient and livable. Minimum area of 500 acres would be taken up under this model. For Rourkela best example under this is Main Bazaar Area / Panposh area, etc

Redevelopment: This involves replacement of existing built-up environment and enables co creation of new layouts with enhanced infrastructure using mixed land use and increase density. Minimum area of 50 acres would be taken up under this model. For Rourkela best example under this is Madhusudanpalli / Malgodown area and Pradhan palli area, etc.

Greenfield: This involves introducing most of Smart solutions in a previously vacant area. Using innovative planning, plan financing and plan implementation tools. Minimum area of 500 acres would be taken up under this model. For Rourkela best example under this is Riun Village/ Cheend colony, BPUT area, TISCO quarry siding and Kalinga Vihar area, etc.

Suggestions are invited from citizens of Rourkela/stakeholders/ associations/ NGO/groups to identify the areas to be taken up for area based development under Smart City Proposal.

The last date to submit your suggestions/ comments is 30th November, 2015.

My smart city should be in the favor of the citizens, 1) sufficient clean water should be supplied timely 2) Continuous electricity power should be supplied 3) Public toilets should be constructed which are clean and hygiene 4) Frequency of public transport i.e. buses should be increased so that there is no rush at peak hours

The Solid Waste Management Rules 2015 under finalisation should include provisions for 'Bio-disposers' to dispose the bio-degradable waste material directly into the sewer network in all the 'Smart Cities' and cities / towns being covered under 'AMRUT' programme

With land parcels in close proximity to one another, the effects of development in one area are likely to be felt quickly and acutely in neighboring sites.
