Under UJALA scheme, the main objective is to promote efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment which reduces electricity bills and helps preserve the environment. Efficient light bulbs, like LEDs, consume only one-tenth of the energy used by ordinary bulbs to provide the same or better light output. So, we ask you to suggest ways for promoting the use of LEDs on this open discussion forum.

*Price of normal bulbs and led bulbs should be equal or on a slight difference so most of the population could afford. * Awareness should be spread on DD channel.

i don't find any govt. advertisement on use of LEDs, so how people is going think about this. Encouragement can be made on Maan ki Baat when maximum of the people hear the talk. Strong statement can be made like "if you are saving electricity today then you are also saving it for tomorrow for yourself and also for others" and many more.

Continued from previous message: Government has been granting rebate for development of solar energy at manufacturers' end. In my observation the systems installed shortlive for want of maintenance. A scheme for IT exemption for investment with proof of their maintenance through reduced conventional energy consumption may achieve ultimate objective of clean/cost effective energy and lay pathway for economic development through increased per capita consumption.

There is no second opinion to usage of LED lights to reduce power consumption which in turn reduces strain on the power distribution system. However, more usage of renewable energy, especially solar energy, combined with usage of LED lights, is better alternative to help the country in accelerating economic development with clean energy. Government may strategies to grant tax rebate for such investment coupled with proof for reduction of consumption from public infrastructure.

Its a very appreciable initiative of the GOI,but where we are lacking,is the awareness among ppl. Few months back I did a survey on the same & from the data I got I analysed that people are not aware about the benefits of LED,what bothers them more is its high cost, moreover ppl are interested to attend camps and all to know more about the benefits of LED. So,I feel that we require to bring the competition in the LED market to bring the cost down and we also require to make ppl aware first.#LEDs
