Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The city should have self sustainable habitats, equipped with optimized energy supply and efficient public transport system and will use methods of optimum pollution control and waste recycling management.

What was once a visionary notion is now the new normal – using Information and Communications technology (ICT) which is as essential as the three utilities: water, telecommunication and electricity, urban planners to use technology to revitalize an existing city or designing a green field city.

Dear Sir, For Smart City implementation, funds are required and the city/corporation has to be self sufficient, to sustain the developments and continuous maintenance. It is observed that the common space in the corporation limits are occupied advertently by owners of the houses, shop keepers, etc. I suggest that the corporation collects a tax for the occupied place, so that the revenue generation will increase and also the extent of encroachment will be known.

FAIR SHARED CITY > In order to assure that all residents of the city are given the opportunity to enjoy its smart city services and policies, promote a set of policies and programs to include dealing with subjects such as: Gender strategic planning in public bodies; the balance between work and private life on the personal and organizational levels; preventing violence from a multicultural and global perspective; gender equality educational programs; etc.

PRODUCTION OF SUSTAINABLE FOOD The City to encourage the production of sustainable food through establishing and supporting a variety of community based programs and projects. These include vegetable gardens at schools and kindergartens used for educational purposes, common urban agricultural Farm, vertical gardening etc

READINESS NETWORK - run a professional emergency network, which includes intake centers that are opened during states of emergency, which can cater to residents who have been evacuated from their homes. The emergency network also consists of air raid shelters and underground parking lots deployed around the city, which have been inspected and approved as being safe. These shelters and parking lots are in addition to the protected spaces found in different locations.

THE CAMERAS - establish a security & emergency command and control center, to which cameras are installed in public spaces, public gardens, educational institutions, and municipal facilities around the city are connected. The cameras are meant to maintain public order and heighten the public's sense of security. The command and control center to be equipped with analytical devices that automatically identify irregular incidents.

SMART PARKING SERVICES An automated parking service to be instituted with Payment can be made using a digital wallet application that precludes the need to pay in cash or enter additional customer information. A customer who chooses not to enter their vehicle's license plate number via the application can still use it to pay for parking by scanning the ticket they received when entering the lot. Payment for public parking in permitted zones can also be made using a cell phone

CYCLE TRACKS - increasing the use of cycles in the city. To allocate a lot of land for cycle track, and the areas designated for cycle riding should continue to grow steadily.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING Promots permits for affordable housing projects built on city land, in addition to incorporating affordable housing in zoning plans that are submitted to the Local Planning for approval. investment in affordable housing projects to be increased.
