Whether the tag 'Smart City' is given to Chennai is predominantly depend upon the improving the traffic system. A type of surgical approach is required to streamline the zig-zag driving, extensive usage of horns, usage head-lamps in high-beam mode etc.,. People should have a feel that we are entering the disciplined traffic 'Smart City' Chennai. That will create a separate identity for Chennai among the proposed 'Smart cities'

The CMA has got 22 water courses – amongst them are Kosasthaliyar, Cooum and Adyar Rivers, Buckingham Canal, and the Red Hills, Chembarambakkam and Sholavaram tanks. These three tanks are the main sources of water supply to Chennai city.
Many of the water bodies are facing problems of not only encroachments reducing their extent, but also the discharge of raw sewage, dumping of solid wastes, etc. and have caused pollution beyond acceptable limits.
