Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

Improve access to health and education. Telecommunications is the bedrock for online education and telemedicine, enabling the delivery of these services above and beyond their traditional boundaries, and allowing health and education professionals to serve a far wider audience than ever before.

Enabling safe e-transactions. Many people have come to rely on online shopping and banking. Building a telecommunications infrastructure with solid cybersecurity makes citizen life more convenient and more secure. Enabling safe, easy online and mobile payments reduces the “friction” of the local economy, leading to higher sales and more jobs.

Introduce a common smart card that can be used across buses and all trains (MRTS, mono, EMU etc) any number of times in a day. The payment for this service should be based on how many times you swiped the card in a day - normally done while entering a bus or entering a train station. We should not need bus conductors and ticket checkers. Just turnstiles to check compliance. After that, double the number of buses and hire more drivers instead. Lesser paper work too.

Usage of a collaboration platform or tool so that people in every street in the city/state can communicate to corresponding official about problems online (via mobile). WhatsApp or that kind of app to report issues directly. It is also very useful to pass information in the form of text, pictures and videos. Reporting Abuse, potholes, etc.

Integrated MRTS Train stations that drive traffic on the MRTS Train line and make each station a unique themed hub for the city. Theme a train station for a major commercial activगty of the city. For eg. what if Richie Street (electronics hub) was moved to a train station complex. Tie up with some retail giant like Big Bazaar and have retail goods theme for a specific stations. Get more vendors of same type . Google for "Japan train station shopping mall" images.
